Even after not taking the field this weekend, Mack Brown and the UNC football program have moved up in the weekly Coaches and AP polls.

The Tar Heels were simply spectators this weekend, but it didn’t stop them from moving on up the weekly rankings.

Mack Brown and the UNC football program have improved their rankings from a week ago, as they now sit at No. 13 in the Coaches poll while they hold down the No. 14 spot in the AP Poll.

North Carolina moved up two spots in the Coaches poll, as they saw a small jump thanks to the major drops from LSU (down 11 spots) and Utah (down 9 spots). The Tar Heels had a smaller jump in the AP poll, as they moved up one spot from last week’s No. 15 ranking.

Among ACC schools, the UNC football program is the second-highest-ranked program behind No. 5 Florida State. The Miami Hurricanes moved up to No. 17, while Duke dropped to No. 21 after its loss to Notre Dame. Louisville remained in the final spot of the AP Top 25 poll for this week.

The Tar Heels will look to move up the rankings some more as they get into the thick of ACC play, starting this weekend with a matchup against Syracuse at home.

Winning their next couple of games could help the UNC football program make a strong case that they belong among the top-10 teams in the country.
