The piece the UNC basketball program desperately needs

After a very disappointing 2022-2023 season, the UNC basketball program hopes that this newcomer could be the missing piece toward getting back on track.

The UNC basketball struggled in a variety of areas during the 2022-2023 season, hence why the Tar Heels failed to earn an NCAA Tournament bid.

One of North Carolina’s biggest issues was the lack of facilitation, as the Tar Heels did not have a true point guard on the roster.

Caleb Love and RJ Davis handled the majority of the ball handling, but neither player is deemed to be a true facilitator. This caused issues in getting others open-shot opportunities, as no one on the roster averaged more than 3.2 assists per game.

This year, Hubert Davis and his staff are hopeful that this will change, as this year’s roster features an incoming freshman who could fill this void perfectly.

The expectations for Elliot Cadeau’s freshman season in Chapel Hill are already sky-high, as UNC basketball fans can’t wait to see Cadeau’s playmaking ability on display for the Tar Heels. College Basketball Insider Jon Rothstein tweeted that people around the UNC basketball program believe that Cadeau will be their best passing point guard since Kendall Marshall.

Fans of the UNC basketball program know how high of praise that is, given what Marshall accomplished during his time at North Carolina.

Cadeau is a special player who has proven that he’s more than capable of making winning plays for his team. Whether he’s called upon to facilitate or score the basketball, Cadeau’s talent and athleticism make him an impact player on both sides of the floor, as the UNC basketball should truly benefit from having him in the mix this upcoming season.
