Omarion Hampton

Heading into the 2023 season, we really didn’t know what to expect from the UNC football program’s running back unit. We knew the Tar Heels had depth at the position but weren’t sure how that depth would be utilized.

British Brooks looked like he was about to grab the job as the team’s leadback early on, but an injury to the veteran opened up an opportunity for Omarion Hampton, one that he took full advantage of.

Hampton put together a dominant performance against Appalachian State, one in which he ran for 234 yards and three scores. Through four weeks, Hampton has carried the ball 73 times for 383 yards and seven touchdowns, averaging 5.2 yards per carry.

On pace to shatter the numbers he put up as a freshman, Hampton has shown signs of being the next great running back to call Chapel Hill his home. Although he hasn’t had another game in which he ran for over 100 yards, Hampton has consistently found the endzone, doing whatever he is asked to do in order to help the Tar Heels offense score points.
