UNC Women’s Basketball named captains for 2023-2024 season
Courtney Banghart and the UNC women’s basketball program have named its two captains for the upcoming 2023-2024 college basketball season.
As we inch closer to the start of the 2023-2024 college basketball season, Courtney Banghart and the UNC women’s basketball program named two captains to lead this year’s squad.
To no surprise, Banghart and company are relying on two seniors who have served as great examples both on and off the court during their time in Chapel Hill.
Deja Kelly and Alyssa Ustby have been tabbed as the team’s captains for the upcoming season. This was announced via the UNC women’s basketball program’s social media accounts.
Kelly and Ustby have been integral parts of the program for the majority of Banghart’s time at the helm at North Carolina. Here’s what Banghart had to say about the decision to name the two seniors captains:
"“I am honored to name Alyssa and Deja our captains for the season ahead. I remember sitting with them almost four years ago to go over their goals, and it’s been quite a journey watching them achieve so much. Both women have shown an undeniable and consistent commitment to their game and to this program and both have grown exponentially in their time in the Carolina blue.“They are ready to lead. They have put their all into this program and love the people in it. Lys and DK know that they have a special group along with them, and I’m confident they will give this responsibility their very best.”"
With high expectations heading into the 2023-2024 season, Kelly and Ustby will look to lead a very talented UNC women’s basketball team to a lot of success on the court over the next few months.
