The UNC Football program looks to improve to 3-0 in the early season as they get set to take on Minnesota for the first time ever.

After a stressful double-overtime victory against Appalachian State, the UNC football program prepares for another non-conference test, this one against Big Ten foe Minnesota.

This matchup marks the first time ever that the two programs have squared off on the gridiron, as the Golden Gophers will be making the trip to Chapel Hill for the matchup. For the Tar Heels, this contest will be the last non-conference game until November 4, as the program’s next five opponents will be conference battles.

Both teams come into this game with a 2-0 record and look to keep their respective win streaks going.

For Minnesota, they have defeated Nebraska and Eastern Michigan, with both games being held at Huntington Bank Stadium, the home of the Golden Gophers. Their defense has been elite, allowing just 16 total points over two weeks of play, but will have to continue that dominance against an offensive-minded UNC football team that strives to put a lot of points on the board.

After an impressive victory on opening night against South Carolina, the UNC football program was able to hold off Appalachian State in another nail-biter in week two. The running game has been the story for the Tar Heels, as it has served as the focal point of the team’s offensive attack through the first two weeks of the season.

This game will likely come down to strengths.

Can Minnesota’s elite defense slow down North Carolina’s high-powered offense, led by star quarterback Drake Maye?

With that question in mind, can Minnesota’s offense, which is known to want to control the time of possession and run the ball effectively, do enough if this game does become a high-scoring affair?

Needless to say, Mack Brown and company are hoping for a strong performance from the Tar Heels as they look to build momentum heading into conference play.
