Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball will face a strong test in its “secret scrimmage” before the 2023-2024 season gets underway.

Before the start of the college basketball season, programs typically conduct a “secret scrimmage” as a preseason test.

These “secret scrimmages” are simply informal exhibition games. No spectators are allowed to view these types of games, as they are private opportunities for teams to see how they measure up against other opponents. Last year, the UNC basketball program hosted Rutgers for this scrimmage while they traveled to Florida to compete against the Gators the season prior.

This year, the Tar Heels will compete against a squad that made the Final Four a season ago.

As first reported by Inside Carolina, the UNC basketball program will face Florida Atlantic in this year’s “secret scrimmage.”

Florida Atlantic is coming off a tremendous 2022-2023 season, one in which they achieved a 35-4 record and made a run to the Final Four as a No. 9 seed in the NCAA Tournament. They defeated Memphis, Fairleigh Dickinson, Tennessee, and Kansas State along that March Madness run.

Heading into this season, the expectations are even higher, as FAU is ranked No. 9 in the early season polls. This is, in large part, due to the fact that they will return all five of last year’s starters.

For a new-look UNC basketball team, this is a great test before the regular season begins. Although the actual details of the game will not be revealed to the general public, this exhibition contest will provide a great opportunity for Hubert Davis and his staff to see this year’s squad in action against one of the top teams in the country.
