For his dominant performance against Appalachian State, UNC football standout Omarion Hampton has earned some ACC weekly honors.

Omarion Hampton was the star of Week 2 for the UNC football program, as his efforts in the Tar Heels’ victory over Appalachian State earned him some well-deserved ACC weekly honors.

Hampton has been named the ACC’s running back of the week. He shares the award with Demond Claiborne of Wake Forest.

"Hampton rushed for a career-high 234 yards on 26 carries with three touchdowns against Appalachian State. In addition, Hampton’s 68-yard touchdown run was a career-best, as the Tar Heels moved to 2-0 on the season with a 40-34 double-overtime win. He became Carolina’s first 200-yard rusher since Ty Chandler gained 213 yards against Wake Forest in 2021. He also became the 27th Tar Heel to ever rush for 200 yards or more in a game."

You could easily make the case that the UNC football program would’ve lost against the Mountaineers if it wasn’t for Hampton’s career day. He became the 27th Tar Heel ever to rush for more than 200 yards in a single game, and the first since Ty Chandler accomplished the feat during the 2021 season.

Through the first two games of the season, the UNC football program’s rushing attack has been stellar. It was British Brooks in Week One and Hampton in Week Two, as we’ll have to wait and see which runningback (if not one of the above listed) is due for a big day this upcoming weekend against Minnesota.
