The UNC women’s basketball star was selected as the ACC’s representative to the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Group.

During her time with the UNC women’s basketball program, Alyssa Ustby has grown into not only a leader on campus but throughout the country as well.

Ustby will take on another challenge this school year, as she’s been selected as the Atlantic Coast Conference’s representative to the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Student-Athlete Engagement Group.

Formed in 2020 in collaboration with the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), this group serves as an amplifying voice for women’s basketball. The selected members focus on key initiatives, legislation, and other various issues that impact student-athletes and the NCAA on a regular basis.

The senior forward is no stranger to serving as a leader, as she represents the UNC women’s basketball team as part of North Carolina’s Student-Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC). Now, she’ll be representing student-athletes on a much larger scale.

As part of the Student-Athlete Engagement Group, Ustby will be tasked with participating in meetings and calls throughout the 2023-2024 school year. Her term will continue on through June 30, 2024.

Head coach Courtney Banghart released a statement regarding Ustby’s appointment to this group:

"“It’s a great honor for Alyssa to be serve in this role. She is a thoughtful leader and the epitome of a student-athlete in so many ways. This opportunity will get her dedication and thoughtfulness. Great choice by the ACC!”"
