The former UNC basketball player is now set to begin his professional career overseas with the Sabah BK Baku of the Azerbaijan Basketball League.

We haven’t heard much about former UNC basketball player Andrew Platek of late, but now we know how he plans on continuing his basketball career.

On Instagram, Sports Five announced that Platek has signed a deal with the Sabah BK Baku of the Azerbaijan Basketball League. The former Tar Heel is now set to begin his professional basketball career this upcoming season.

Platek spent four seasons with the UNC basketball program, appearing in 127 games (11 starts) over that span. He scored 334 points as a Tar Heel, knocking down an efficient 46 of his 123 field goal attempts from three-point range.

After leaving the UNC basketball program, Platek transferred to Siena for his graduate season. The 2021-2022 season was cut short for Platek as he suffered a season-ending injury, but he returned to be a key contributor to the program during the 2022-2023 campaign.

As a starter, Platek averaged 10.4 points per game while shooting 45.1% from the floor. All 32 of his appearances were starts, as the Saints went on to finish third in the MAAC.

Platek is joining a team that is very new but already has some championship experience. Founded in 2022, Sabah BK Baku won the national championship in their debut season, as they’ll now enter the 2023–24 FIBA Europe Cup qualifying rounds this upcoming season.

This is a great opportunity for Platek, a guy who is looking to continue his basketball career. While he isn’t the most notable player to ever compete for the UNC basketball program, Platek is a player who can be called upon to make winning plays on the basketball court.
