Lil Wayne

One of the most well-known rappers ever, Lil Wayne has never hidden his love for North Carolina, especially the UNC basketball program.

Back in 2008, Lil Wayne blogged for ESPN (yes, we’re not joking), as he clarified that he was, in fact, loyal to the Tar Heels:

"I also like LSU for basketball, but they aren’t my favorite team. That would be UNC. I’m a North Carolina fan to death. All the Dukies are gonna be mad at me, but I can’t lie. They actually invited me to the Final Four and it was amazing. I have never experienced nothing like that in my life, even though I had to sit in the section of the team they were playing, it was very enjoyable. I’ve been a UNC fan since Ronald Curry and Julius Peppers were playing basketball. Actually, I’m just playin’. It’s been way longer than that. I wanna say since Jordan was there, but of course I was way too young, so I don’t wanna lie. But once I did become old enough to love basketball, at about nine years of age, of course I liked Mike. And he played for UNC, so that was why I got into them."

The rapper has also included North Carolina in some of his work, as the below lyrics come from his song “Best of Me (SQ4 Mixtape):

"Three, two, one: Carolina blue kicks, Carolina blue fitted Carolina blue whip, Carolina blue twenties Carolina blue seats, Carolina blue ice Carolina blue bike, Carolina blue lights Carolina blue jersey, Carolina blue gator"

Lil Wayne also took to social media to express his excitement when the UNC basketball program captured the national championship in 2017.
