Week Four: AT Pittsburgh

Delahanty:

Here’s that game on the schedule that I believe we’ll look back on and say “This was the game the Tar Heels needed to win but didn’t.”

On the road to kick-off conference play, I think that the veteran Panthers team is going to find a way to make life difficult for North Carolina. This will give the Tar Heels a 2-2 record heading into the off-week, which will hopefully provide Mack Brown and company time to get the team back on track.

Prediction: Pittsburgh 28, North Carolina 21 (Record: 2-2)

Falls:

Pittsburgh seems to always provide a test for the Tar Heels. This will be the first true road game of the 2023 season and could prove to be one of several obstacles along their path to making the ACC Championship game for the second straight season. With a chance to exit September and head into the bye week with a 3-1 record, Carolina fails to do so and loses a game they really shouldn’t. But the defense struggles and Maye isn’t able to outscore the Panthers.

Prediction: Pittsburgh 35, North Carolina 27 (Record: 2-2)

Ebersbach:

For the first conference game of the season, the Tar Heels will travel to face Pittsburgh on the brink of fall on September 23rd. This is another game that the Tar Heels should not struggle with, but Pitt is always hard to predict, especially under Pat Narduzzi. The Panthers are constructed of mostly upperclassmen, so it will be an experienced Pitt team this season. I still believe Mack Brown and the Heels can get the job done.

Prediction: North Carolina 45, Pittsburgh 32 (Record: 3-1)
