UNC Baseball: Mac Horvath makes Single-A debut
The former UNC baseball star made his Single-A debut after playing a few games for the Baltimore Orioles’ Rookie League club.
After being selected in the second round of the 2023 MLB Draft, Mac Horvath agreed to a contract with the Baltimore Orioles and was sent to the organization’s Rookie League club.
His time in the Florida Coast League certainly didn’t last long!
The former UNC baseball star appeared in three games for the FCL Orioles, collecting five hits in 9 official at-bats. He reached base in eight of his 12 total plate appearances, scoring on six of those occasions.
It was a small sample size, but the Orioles organization saw more than enough to promote Horvath to Single-A.
Horvath reached base in three of his five plate appearances, as he recorded a single for his first Single-A hit while also drawing two walks. He was penciled into the second spot in the starting lineup and played second base for the Delmarva Shorebirds.
After playing third base in his three Florida Coast League appearances, it’s interesting to see Horvath play second base in his Single-A debut. The former Diamond Heel is a versatile player, as he has the ability to play multiple positions, but second base isn’t one that Horvath has a ton of college or professional experience at.
As he progresses through the minor leagues, the Orioles will look for the perfect defensive position for their second-round draft pick. With his ability offensively, don’t be surprised if Horvath quickly progresses through the Orioles’ minor league system en route to the big leagues.
