Over the last several months, we’ve seen bits and pieces of the UNC women’s basketball non-conference schedule released. Now, the entirety of that portion of the schedule has been released, and we can put dates with opponents.

The Tar Heels’ non-conference portion of the schedule is loaded with powerhouse programs across women’s college basketball, including a home game in Carmichael Arena with 2023 Final Four participant and 2022 National Champion, South Carolina.

The UNC Women’s basketball team will have seven non-conference games in Carmichael, with five of those against in-state foes. Courtney Banghart’s squad will also travel to Fort Meyers, Florida for the Gulf Coast Showcase where they could potentially face the 2023 National Runner-Up, Iowa.

The other major opponent in their non-conference schedule is national power UConn. While the Huskies haven’t won a National Championship in seven years, they are still relative and if they can stay healthy, will have one of the best teams they’ve put on the court since their last title run in 2016. This will be a neutral site matchup in Uncasville, Connecticut as the first game of a home-and-home between the Tar Heels and Huskies.

For the UNC women’s basketball program, the non-conference schedule is a very challenging one, but is a slate of games that could prove to be beneficial comes March. With big expectations for the 2023-2024 season, the Tar Heels will certainly be battle-tested from the word go.
