The incoming transfer wide receiver is expected to play a big role in the UNC football program’s offense during the 2023 season.

Without a doubt, Devontez ‘Tez’ Walker is one of the highly talked about transfers in all of college football.

The former Kent State standout is coming off a first-team All-MAC season as a sophomore, as he hauled in 58 passes for 921 yards and 11 touchdowns. Those 11 scores were tied for seventh-most in the country, while he finished in the top two in the MAC in both receiving yards (first) and scores (second).

Now, the Charlotte, North Carolina native is set to make an impact on the UNC football program as a transfer, and the country is certainly taking notice of what he’s capable of doing.

Walker has been named to the 2023 Biletnikoff Award Watch List, as announced by the Tallahassee Quarterback Club Foundation. This award is presented annually to the country’s best pass catcher (regardless of position) among all Football Bowl Subdivisions.

His decision to transfer to the UNC football program makes a ton of sense for two very good reasons:

For starters, the Tar Heels lost both Josh Downs and Antoine Green to the NFL and have been producing NFL-quality receivers over the last few seasons. With the aforementioned duo now playing on Sundays, North Carolina needs to replace the production that they both put together.

Walker definitely can help play a big role in that.

To add to that, it’s not often that you get to get to catch passes from one of the country’s top quarterbacks. Drake Maye is back for year two as the program’s starter and can benefit from having a No. 1 receiver to rely on in key situations.

Seems like a really good fit overall!

If Walker has the type of season that the UNC football program expects him to have, the rising junior will be a strong contender for this award come the end of the season.
