UNC Basketball freshman Elliot Cadeau is gaining plenty of interest in the 2024 NBA Draft and is being featured on several draft boards.

It’s been over two months since the UNC basketball gained program another guard for the 2023-2024 basketball season when Elliot Cadeau opted to reclassify from the 2024 class to join this year’s squad.

Since then, Tar Heel fans have been nothing but excited for the high school senior turned college freshman to step foot on Roy Williams Court at the Dean E. Smith Center.

Unfortunately for fans, if Cadeau is as good as advertised, he may only be in Carolina Blue for one year. In June, he was featured on a top-30 prospects list by SB Nation where he was ranked No. 14 overall.

The Ringer, a sports and pop culture website, has released their “way-too-early” prospect rankings for the 2024 NBA Draft and Cadeau is on this list as well, but higher than his SB Nation ranking.

The Tar Heel freshman finds himself on this list at No. 7. This is what they have to say about Cadeau:

"Cadeau is small in stature at 6-foot-1 and 165 pounds, but he could end up being the best shot creator in this draft class. He’s a gifted ball handler who displays poise in the pick-and-roll and excels in isolation, effortlessly crafting shots using myriad agile maneuvers. As a facilitator, he’s audacious, slinging pinpoint passes to any teammate, anywhere. Finding consistency as a perimeter shooter could propel him even higher up my rankings, and it’d open more driving lanes. As a smaller guard, he needs to confound defenders with off-beat finishes, but he’s also explosive and spices things up with an occasional surprise dunk. Though smaller players will always be targets on defense, Cadeau at least tries to make up for his lack of size by anticipating passes and standing his ground. With regular minutes for the Tar Heels, he could end up being one of the must-watch players in college basketball and then one of the top picks."

We know that he can surprise us with his dunking ability as we saw last week. It’s worth noting that the top eight players on this list are either college freshmen or G-League players. If we remove the G-League players from this list, then Cadeau is fourth among the collegiate ranks.

If Cadeau is able to find his perimeter shot as The Ringer mentions, then fans would have to like the position that UNC basketball will be in for the 2023-2024 season.
