The UNC football program has added its second commitment to its 2025 recruiting class in the form of a highly-touted in-state defensive lineman.

Mack Brown and the UNC football program wasted no time getting in on the action with the Class of 2025.

As the Tar Heels went about contacting some of their top targets within this class, one decided to commit to the program. That player is Gus Ritchey, a high three-star in-state defensive lineman.

At the moment, Ritchey, a Pittsboro, North Carolina native, ranks as the 9th best prospect out of his home state. Along with Bryce Baker (No. 8 on the list), the UNC football program now has secured two commitments from top-10 ranked in-state products.

Ritchey made his surprise announcement on a live appearance on Inside Carolina’s Noon Dish Show.

A week prior, Ritchey wasn’t ready to make a decision. However, the last week opened his eyes, as he realized that Chapel Hill is the right place for him.

"“What really happened was, mainly, I was down to three schools. I didn’t publicly announce it: I was down to NC State, UNC, and Maryland. And basically, I was going to make a final round on me, I had talked with my family. So I’m going to make a final round: I’m going to go to NC State first, I’m going to go to UNC and then I might try to go to Maryland. It ended up that I couldn’t go to Maryland, but I went to NC State and UNC.“NC State was a great place. They did their thing. I loved it. But, UNC was just different. I think it is a place where I’ll be most successful. Not only in the football field, but even if the dreams of being in the NFL don’t work out. I know for a fact that I’ll have a successful business or be a successful coach.”"

With two years left in his high school career, it’s very possible that Ritchey will move up the recruiting ranks before it comes to a close. Needless to say, this is a really nice pickup for the UNC football program as they look to haul in more Class of 2025 talent in the near future.
