The UNC football program’s star quarterback is among the 85 players on the Maxwell Award watch list for the 2023 college football season.

Let watch list season begin, as Drake Maye has been named to the Maxwell Award watch list for the upcoming 2023 college football season.

The UNC football program’s star quarterback is among 85 players that were named to the watch list. This award, one of the most prestigious in all of college football, has been presented annually since 1937 to the college football player who is considered the most outstanding, regardless of position.

It’s no surprise that Maye has earned a spot on the watch list, given what he accomplished in his first season as the UNC football program’s starting signal-caller.

Maye threw for 3,847 yards and 35 touchdowns while adding 629 yards rushing and six more touchdowns on the ground. He became just the ninth FBS quarterback since 2010 to post 3,500 passing yards, 35 passing TDs, 500 rushing yards, and five rushing TDs in a single season.

The Tar Heels’ star quarterback also became the only player in the ACC conference over the last 25 seasons to record at least 300 passing yards and 50 rushing yards in four consecutive contests.

Maye is definitely among the top players in the country, as he’s earned some very notable NFL draft recognition as a potential top-5 pick. If he can string together another very strong season, it won’t be a surprise if Maye is a strong contender for this award by the time it is all said and done.
