UNC Basketball: NFL Quarterback aspired to be a Tar Heel
A current NFL quarterback had dreams of competing for the University of North Carolina but not for the school’s football program.
We often hear stories about how former college athletes wanted to compete for the University of North Carolina.
Of all the tales we’ve heard, Jacoby Brissett’s might be among the best.
On a recent appearance on Smylie Kaufman’s “Smylie Show” on SiriusXM Podcasts, Brissett, currently with the Washington Commanders organization, admitted he wanted to play for North Carolina but not for the UNC football team.
Instead, Brissett wanted to suit up for the UNC basketball program.
"“I always wanted to go to North Carolina to play basketball.”"
The current NFL quarterback went on to tell a story about his official visit to NC State, the school he ended up playing football for. While in Raleigh, the Wolfpack hosted the Tar Heels in a basketball game, one that would end in an NC State victory.
Brissett admitted that he was upset that the Tar Heels, which he grew up rooting for and was secretly rooting for that night, ended up losing the game.
Fast forward to now, as Brissett shares a quarterback room in Washington with Sam Howell, who we all know played for the UNC football program.
Even though the two come from rival schools, Brissett’s hidden passion for the UNC basketball program will potentially lead to some interesting conversations in the Commanders’ locker room this upcoming season.
