UNC Football star Drake Maye spoke to reporters at the 2023 ACC Kickoff event on Thursday morning in Charlotte. Find out what Maye had to say.

To no surprise, Drake Maye was one of the headliners for the 2023 ACC Kickoff event in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The UNC football star spoke to reporters for approximately 45 minutes, as he covered a wide range of topics, including his future plans.

In case you missed it, here’s a full video, courtesy of Tar Heel Tribune:

After an incredible redshirt freshman season, Maye has solidified himself among the best quarterbacks in the country. It’s safe to say that 99% of people who follow or are a part of the college football world would say that it’s essentially a lock for Maye to enter next year’s NFL Draft, except for the quarterback himself.

"“I think coming back is definitely in the question. This is the third year. I want to obviously graduate, and however the year plays out. I hope we win all the games we can. Coming back and staying for this great university, playing another year? You can’t say no to that. Also, at the same time, it’s my dream to play in the NFL. So let’s see how this year plays out. But North Carolina is special.”"

Of course, it wouldn’t be wise to read too much into that statement, as Maye will definitely consider all of his options once the season comes to a close. However, unless something drastic happens, don’t expect Maye back next season, as he’ll potentially be a top-five selection in next year’s draft if all goes well this year.

Maye also reiterated that he never intended on leaving the UNC football program this offseason, as he shot down the rumors of receiving lucrative NIL deals to play elsewhere. He also sounded surprised that people were even worried about him leaving, as he was, and still is, fully committed to the UNC football program.
