For the first time since 2010, ESPN College GameDay will be on-site prior to the UNC football program’s season opener against South Carolina.

The hype around the UNC football program’s season opener against South Carolina in Charlotte was already a highly-anticipated contest.

Two top-25 caliber teams.

Two quarterbacks that are highly touted.

A battle of two teams from the Carolinas.

Primetime action to kick off the season.

What more could you ask for?!

Well, to add to it, ESPN has decided that Charlotte is the place where the popular College GameDay show will be to kick off the 2023 college football regular season.

For the first time since 2010, the UNC football program will be featured in the GameDay game of the week. The program has only made two appearances, both of which ended with losses.

The Tar Heels will look to change that narrative this year, as they’ll aim to make an early statement against a very talented opponent. With Drake Maye under center, the UNC football program believes that they have the ability to compete with anyone and are hoping to showcase that on primetime against the Gamecocks.

If you’re heading to Charlotte for this highly-anticipated matchup, you may want to head there early to be in the crowd for ESPN College GameDay. You should expect to see a ton of Carolina blue in the crowd as the fans in the area anxiously await the opening kickoff later on that night.
