UNC Basketball: Brady Manek signs with BC Zalgiris Kaunas
The former UNC basketball standout is heading back overseas, as he’s inked a new contract with a professional team in Lithuania.
After impressing during the recent NBA Summer League action in Las Vegas, former UNC basketball standout Brady Manek made his case to earn a roster spot for the upcoming season.
However, unfortunately it didn’t pan out for the talented big man, as he’s heading back overseas to continue his professional career.
The former Tar Heel has agreed to a 1+1 contract with BC Zalgiris Kaunas, a professional basketball organization in Lithuania. Manek posted a message to the BC Zalgiris Kaunas fans on their Instagram account to make the signing official.
It’s still rather confusing as to why Manek is struggling to find a spot in the NBA, especially considering his size and skill set. In the current NBA, big men who can shoot the basketball, especially from deep, are at a premium, as Manek checks off both of those boxes.
Manek put together a strong Summer League performance, as he put his skill set on display. However, it wasn’t enough to get him a training camp invite with the Atlanta Hawks, as he’ll once again compete internationally in hopes of one day earning a NBA roster spot.
Even though it’s disappointing that Manek didn’t earn an NBA roster spot, it’s encouraging to see that professional teams overseas see his value and what he brings to the table. Knowing Manek, it’s certain that he’ll make a major impact on his new squad this upcoming season.
