American

Of the current American Conference (which features 11 different programs) the UNC basketball program has seen almost half of them in the tournament.

As we’re focused on the schools they haven’t played, here’s a list of American Conference teams that have yet to take on the Tar Heels:

Central Florida (UCF)
Memphis
SMU
South Florida
Tulane
Wichita State

With Penny Hardaway at the helm at Memphis, you’d have to think that a battle with the Tigers would be the most likely (and most intriguing) of the programs on the list.

The “big dog” of this conference has been Houston, who the Tar Heels have seen twice in NCAA Tournament play. After dropping the first matchup in 1967 (a third-place game), North Carolina earned some revenge years later, as the 1982 Tar Heels defeated the Cougars in the NCAA Tournament semi-finals.
