Mountain West

Of the 11 schools that make up the current Mountain West Conference, the UNC basketball program has only played two of them in NCAA Tournament play.

Want to take a guess?

If you guessed UNLV and Air Force, you are correct!

The Tar Heels matched up with UNLV in the 1977 NCAA Tournament semi-finals, while they competed against Air Force in the 2004 Round of 64.

Other than that, the UNC basketball program has yet to face these programs:

Boise State
Colorado State
Fresno State
Nevada
New Mexico State
San Diego State
San Jose State
Utah State
Wyoming

Of course, the Mountain West Conference isn’t regarded as one of the top college basketball conferences in the country. However, there are some teams on the list that have made recent NCAA Tournament pushes and could potentially find themselves in a matchup with the Tar Heels at some point over the next few seasons.
