Could Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program add an international prospect to their roster for the upcoming college basketball season?

It’s no secret that Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program have some available scholarships to work with for the upcoming 2023-2024 season.

Could an international prospect fill one of the voids?

Johnny Furphy, a 6-foot-8 forward from Australia, has been making major headlines as of late. The international standout was the talk of the NBA Global Academy event, as his elite skill level, shooting, and ability to make plays for himself and others with the ball in his hands have college coaches across the country very intrigued.

At the moment, Furphy is a member of the Class of 2024. However, according to Eric Bossi of 247Sports, the Australian native seems to be focused on reclassifying to the Class of 2023.

"To make things more interesting, it is sounding more and more like Furphy will actually make his way to the States as a member of the class of 2023. We spotted head coaches from Duke, Gonzaga, Kansas, North Carolina, Providence, UCLA and many others taking in his games and he confirmed to 247Sports that he’s looking into making 2023 happen and that visits could be set up quite soon. Once those visits are in place, this is a recruitment that we could see moving to a quick conclusion."

The UNC basketball program is definitely interested in Furphy, as it will be interesting to see if they are one of the schools that he elects to visit. This recruitment has the potential of moving very fast, especially if reclassifying is his main priority.

For UNC basketball fans, this is a name to keep an eye on, as this elite-level international prospect may be one that could potentially be in play for the Tar Heels.
