UNC Football: 247Sports 2023 ACC Preseason Predictions
Heading into the 2023 season, 247Sports tabs the UNC football program as one of the better teams in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
As we’re just a few weeks away from opening kickoff, 247Sports released its annual preseason football predictions for the Atlantic Coast Conference.
For starters, Mack Brown and the UNC football program are predicted to finish third in the conference, trailing Florida State and Clemson. The Tar Heels did not receive a first-place vote, as Florida State (12) and Clemson (10) took home all 22 of the votes.
Star quarterback Drake Maye earned some recognition, as he was tabbed as the ACC Offensive Player of the Year. Here’s what Brandon Marcello had to say about Maye:
"Maye is probably the most-gifted passer in the ACC, and is certainly worthy of consideration as the top quarterback in the upcoming NFL Draft. He was terrific in his debut as a starter last season, completing 66.2% of his passes for 4,321 yards and 38 touchdowns against seven interceptions. Honestly, it might be difficult for him to replicate those numbers after offensive coordinator Phil Longo left for Wisconsin and his top two receivers exited after combining for 137 catches and 18 touchdowns. If he somehow does come close to last season’s number, Maye deserves the nod as the ACC’s offensive player of the year."
Maye did receive votes for ACC Player of the Year, but Florida State quarterback Jordan Travis got the nod for that award. Along with Travis and Maye, Clemson’s Jeremiah Trotter Jr. was the only other player to earn a vote for this award.
Although the hype is currently surrounding Florida State, the UNC football program still has a chance to be a strong contender in the ACC this season. With Drake Maye under center, the Tar Heels have to feel pretty good about their chances during the 2023 campaign.
