Surprisingly, there is a rather long list of FBS teams that the UNC football program has yet to face over its 135 years of existence.

In the college football world, the main focus nowadays seems to be on the college football playoffs, conference re-alignments as well as the upcoming schedules for some of the country’s top teams.

However, we don’t often sit back and think, “Which programs haven’t my favorite team played yet?”

The UNC football program has been around since 1888 (135 years to be exact), and it may surprise you just how many FBS teams they haven’t faced yet. In total, there are a whopping 53 FBS programs that North Carolina hasn’t faced on a football field heading into the 2023 season!

Let’s break down all 53 of these teams, starting with the current independents.

UNC Football vs. Independents

The only current independent that the UNC football program hasn’t battled yet is UMass. The Minutemen have been independent since 2016, as it’s possible that the two programs could elect to play one another in the foreseeable future.
