The former UNC basketball standout made a strong first impression as he put together a strong performance in the Atlanta Hawks’ Summer League opener.

Brady Manek definitely made the most of his first Summer League opportunity with the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night.

Coming off the bench, the former UNC basketball standout led the Hawks with 17 points, as he connected on five three-point field goals. Tar Heels fans saw plenty of that in Manek’s lone season with the program, as he showed the ability to stretch the floor at a very effective rate.

Half of Manek’s points came at the beginning of the fourth quarter of play, as he went on a 9-0 run of his own to spark the Hawks’ comeback pursuit:

Overall, Manek saw 19 minutes of action, as he knocked down six of his 11 field goal attempts. The former Tar Heel also recorded two rebounds, a steal as well as a block in his debut with the Hawks.

As he fights for a spot on an NBA roster, Manek showed how his game correlates with the current playing style of the league. Teams across the league dream of finding big men who have the ability to stretch the floor, as that is something that Manek has a knack for doing.

If he continues to have a strong Summer League, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him invited to training camp with the Hawks (or another NBA squad). The hope is that the former UNC basketball standout can continue to put together strong performances to help make his case that he does belong in the NBA.
