The North Carolina Tar Heels were well-represented by their student-athletes on the ACC Academic Honor Roll for the 2022-2023 school year.

On Friday, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced its annual Academic Honor Roll for the 2022-2023 school year.

The ACC Academic Honor Roll is comprised of student-athletes who participated in a varsity-level sport and registered a grade point average of 3.0 or better for the full academic year. As part of this year’s list, a league-record 5,942 student-athletes were recognized for their classroom excellence.

Among the record amount of student-athletes that made the cut this year, 503 of them are North Carolina Tar Heels.

The Tar Heels had the fourth-most student-athletes on the list, as the university was represented well by members of various varsity-level sports teams.

If you take a look at the full list (which can be found here), you’ll notice plenty of familiar names that North Carolina Tar Heels fans have rooted for in Chapel Hill.

In the conference’s official press release, ACC Commissioner Jim Phillips, Ph.D. released the following statement regarding the academic success rate of the student-athletes within the Atlantic Coast Conference:

"“The ACC has incredible student-athletes, and we applaud their efforts and successes both on and off the field. We are proud to honor a record number of student-athletes for their accomplishments in the classroom. Congratulations to nearly 6,000 individuals who earned ACC Academic Honor Roll distinction this year and those that tirelessly support them on our 15 campuses.”"

It’s great seeing so many North Carolina Tar Heels thriving both on and off the playing field as these student-athletes have shown the ability to perform at a high level as well-rounded individuals. The hope is that the number of Tar Heels will be higher next year as the university hopes to top the list at some point in the near future.
