UNC Baseball: Mac Horvath makes big jump in college prospect rankings
As the MLB Draft approaches, UNC baseball star Mac Horvath is among one of the biggest risers up the college prospect rankings.
We’re closing in on the start of the 2023 MLB Draft, as UNC baseball star Mac Horvath is expected to be an early selection.
After a stellar junior season, Horvath drew a ton of attention, as his offensive prowess and defensive versatility are enticing to Major League clubs. His rise to stardom was noticed by D1Baseball, as the Diamond Heels’ standout is one of the biggest risers in their recent MLB Draft college prospects rankings.
Hovath moved up to No. 25 on the list, jumping a staggering 38 spots since the last edition of the list. The rise shouldn’t be a surprise, given what Horvath was able to accomplish in Chapel Hill this season.
The Rochester, Minnesota native was a vital part of Scott Forbes’ everyday lineup, as he ranked among the ACC’s leaders in home runs (second), stolen bases (second), runs (fourth), doubles (seventh), slugging percentage (seventh), RBIs (eighth) and OPS (10th).
Horvath became the first Diamond Heel ever, and the first ACC player since 1999, to record 20 stolen bases, 20 home runs, and 20 doubles in the same season. He posted career-highs in 10 offensive categories while also slugging the second-most home runs at the University of North Carolina in a single season.
As MLB teams look to add talent via the upcoming draft, Mac Horvath should be a player that should draw plenty of interest, especially on day one of the event.
