UNC Basketball: Jawad Williams named Kings player development coach
Former UNC basketball standout Jawad Williams has landed a new coaching opportunity in the NBA with the Sacramento Kings.
The speculation began when Jawad Williams was listed as a coach for the Sacramento Kings Summer League squad.
Now, we have more clarity on what the former UNC basketball standout is up to.
According to a post from his agency, Elfus Sports, Williams has been named the Kings’ player development coach. This comes after the former UNC basketball standout spent last season in a similar role with the Nagasaki Verca in Japan.
Tar Heel fans remember Williams quite well, as he played a key role in the program’s 2004-2005 National Championship run. After his time at North Carolina, Williams went on to spend three seasons with the Cleveland Cavaliers before extending his career overseas until June 1, 2022.
Now that his playing days are over, Williams is looking to jumpstart his coaching career. He’ll have the opportunity to work with the Kings, which is a tremendous opportunity for a guy with as much experience as the former Tar Heel possesses.
Playing days don’t last forever, as former athletes are tasked with the challenge of finding new ventures once their careers come to an end. For Williams, his next venture stays close to the court, as he’ll look to groom the next set of great players to come through the Sacramento Kings organization.
