UNC Basketball: Reggie Bullock’s contract guaranteed
Prior to the start of free agency, the Dallas Mavericks had to make a decision regarding the final year of this former UNC basketball standout’s contract.
This week, the Dallas Mavericks had a deadline to decide on what they planned to do with the final year of Reggie Bullock’s contract.
The former UNC basketball standout originally agreed to a three-year, $30 million dollar deal with the Mavericks during the summer of 2021, as the third year of the deal, worth $10.5 million, wasn’t fully guaranteed.
Before the deadline buzzer struck, the Mavericks decided it was in their best interest to keep Bullock around.
Marc Stein first reported that the Mavericks picked up Bullock’s option for the 2023-2024 season.
The former Tar Heel struggled during the 2022-2023 season, as his production was inconsistent throughout. Bullock averaged 7.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game while shooting 40.9 percent from the field, as his scoring output hasn’t been this low since his time in Detroit back during the 2016-2017 campaign.
Although he struggled last season, Bullock is still a player that helped the Mavericks reach the Western Conference Finals the season prior. Even if the organization elects to use him and his expiring contract as trade bait, the former UNC basketball standout should make an impact for an NBA team this upcoming season.
For now, his future remains in Dallas, where he hopes to help lead the franchise back toward being a serious contender in the Western Conference. We’ll have to wait and see how the rest of the offseason plays out in order to determine how the Mavericks view his future with the organization.
