Before free agency officially begins, the Sacramento Kings ensured that a former UNC basketball standout wouldn’t leave the organization.

Over the last five seasons, former UNC basketball standout Harrison Barnes has been a major asset for the Sacramento Kings organization.

Not only is he a valuable talent on the court, but has played a huge role in serving as a leader as the franchise worked its way back into being Western Conference contenders.

As he was set to hit the free agent market this offseason, the Kings made it a priority to keep him with the organization. Fortunately for them, they got a deal done before free agency opened up.

Barnes has agreed to a three-year, $54 million dollar contract extension with the Kings. The new deal is set to cover the former Tar Heel through his age 33 season.

This is a great deal for Barnes, as he’s clearly found a permanent home in Sacramento. Although he had success in both of his other landing spots (Golden State and Dallas), Barnes has been a tremendous contributor for the Kings and will look to help lead the franchise toward a run at an NBA title over the next few seasons.
