After acquiring him in a midseason trade, the Brooklyn Nets are looking to re-sign former UNC basketball standout Cameron Johnson.

The Brooklyn Nets have plenty of questions to answer this offseason, with the future of former UNC basketball standout Cameron Johnson at the forefront.

Johnson, who was acquired in the midseason trade that sent Kevin Durant to the Phoenix Suns, is set to be a restricted free agent. The 27-year-old quickly made an impact with the Nets, averaging 16.6 points per game over 25 games played as a starter.

The former Tar Heel is expected to draw plenty of interest on the free agent market, but it looks like the Nets will make re-signing him a priority this offseason.

According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, the Nets are preparing to match offer sheets for Johnson up to the four-year, $100 million mark.

"“I think he’ll probably get around 90 {million}. If a team comes hunting, he could approach 100 {million}, maybe not all guaranteed. I think the Nets will match up to that level.”"

The Detroit Pistons and Houston Rockets have been two teams linked to Johnson, as they could be serious competitors for the Nets as they look to retain the 27-year-old sharpshooter. It seems that the Nets have set a point at which they are willing to match rival offers, as Johnson could be playing elsewhere if another franchise blows him away with a bigger offer.

Johnson’s future will be a story to monitor as free agency gets underway on June 30.
