Scott Forbes and the UNC baseball program have added a major weapon to its starting rotation via the transfer portal.

The UNC baseball program looks to improve on its starting pitching and took a right step towards that goal this week.

Scott Forbes and the Diamond Heels earned a commitment from Elon transfer Shea Sprague, a left-handed pitcher from Hanover, Massachusetts.

Since arriving at Elon, Sprague has been fantastic on the mound. After making 19 appearances as a freshman (10 starts), the future Tar Heel earned the following honors for his fantastic debut season:

• 2022 All-CAA First Team
• 2022 CAA Co-Rookie of the Year
• 2022 CAA All-Rookie Team
• 2022 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American
• CAA Co-Pitcher of the Week (April 4, 2022)
• CAA Co-Rookie of the Week (April 11, 2022)
• CAA Co-Rookie of the Week (May 9, 2022)

As a sophomore, Sprague became the ace for the Phoenix, as he made 15 starts while completing over 90 innings of work.

Overall, Sprague leaves Elon as the school’s Division I all-time ERA leader, as he put together a 13-6 record with a 2.36 ERA over 34 outings (25 starts). He struck out 123 batters while only allowing 32 walks over his 152.1 innings pitched.

This is a huge addition for the Diamond Heels, as they add a very capable starter to the mix. The UNC baseball program hopes that Sprague can continue his success in Chapel Hill and become a reliable starting pitching option for Forbes and company to work with.
