UNC Basketball: Leaky Black signs two-way deal with Hornets
The former UNC basketball standout will have the opportunity to begin his professional career with an organization in his home state.
The 58 picks of the 2023 NBA Draft concluded as UNC basketball standout Leaky Black was one of the notable players that were not selected.
However, that didn’t signify the end for the Concord, North Carolina native, as he’ll have an opportunity to earn an NBA spot with his hometown team.
Black has agreed to a two-way deal with the Charlotte Hornets. As he’ll compete in the upcoming NBA Summer League, this type of deal allows Black to not only spend time on the Hornets’ roster but provides him with an opportunity to continue developing with the Greensboro Swarm of the NBA G-League.
The Hornets were one of 11 NBA teams that had Black in for a pre-draft workout and must have liked what they saw from the hometown product. His elite defensive ability is what stands out most about his game, but his understanding of the game and the capability of making winning plays is also something that should benefit him at the next level.
Although he would have loved to have heard his name called during the draft, this is a great opportunity for Black to showcase his skills with a team not too far from his home. He’ll look to prove that he is, in fact, an NBA-caliber player moving forward.
