The UNC baseball standout has worked his way into Bleacher Report’s latest 2023 MLB mock draft as a late first-round selection.

With just a few weeks until the 2023 MLB Draft gets underway, UNC baseball standout Mac Horvath is drawing plenty of attention.

The junior had a tremendous season for the Diamond Heels, as he put himself in a position to potentially be a day-one selection.

According to Bleacher Report’s latest mock draft, Horvath is projected to be a late first-round pick.

In this mock draft, Horvath lands with the New York Mets as the No. 32 overall selection. This pick is part of the Competitive Balance Round A picks, as the Mets’ selection was moved back 10 spots as a penalty for exceeding the luxury-tax threshold by more than $40 million.

The Rochester, Minnesota native was a vital part of Scott Forbes’ everyday lineup, as he ranked among the ACC’s leaders in home runs (second), stolen bases (second), runs (fourth), doubles (seventh) slugging percentage (seventh), RBIs (eighth) and OPS (10th).

Horvath became the first Diamond Heel ever, and the first ACC player since 1999, to record 20 stolen bases, 20 home runs, and 20 doubles in the same season. He posted career-highs in 10 offensive categories while also slugging the second-most home runs at the University of North Carolina in a single season.

The Diamond Heels star is spending the week in Arizona at the MLB Draft Combine in hopes of improving his stock even more. Although he still has another year of college eligibility remaining, there’s a strong possibility that Horvath will be part of an MLB organization at some point in the near future.
