What tactic have rival college football programs been using to try to deter prospects away from committing to the UNC football recruiting team?
Recruiting. A battle that is as old as time.
As college football programs across the country look to haul in the top talent available, some aren’t afraid to use tactics to keep players away from rival schools.
During his summer media session, head coach Mack Brown discussed the latest tactic that rival schools are using against him and the UNC football recruiting team as they compete for pledges from high school prospects:
Mack says a lot of coaches were telling recruits he was going to quit yet some of them got fired, so he says they “need to worry about their own jobs”

The now 71-year-old stated that other programs are telling recruits that he is set to retire from his position as the UNC football program’s leader. Brown sees it more as a compliment and went on to thank those recruiters that have been spreading that rumor.
Mack, with a smirk, is publicly thanking all opposing recruiters who have said he’s going to retire. He calls it a compliment.

Of course, the question of how long Brown plans on coaching is a legitimate one, given his age and the grueling nature of the job itself. However, Brown has not indicated that he is even relatively close to hanging it up, so all the rumors from other college programs are simply that at this point in time.
This is just a reminder that college programs in various sports will do whatever it takes to get an upper edge in the recruiting world. It should actually be seen as a compliment, as Brown stated, as rival schools are worried about the UNC football recruiting team and are going to every possible stop to ensure that they don’t get the prospects that they are actively pursuing.
