UNC Basketball: Vince Carter headlines Florida Sports Hall of Fame Class
The UNC basketball legend and Daytona Beach, Florida native headlines the eight-member Florida Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2023.
Vince Carter is heading to the Florida Sports Hall of Fame.
The UNC basketball legend was announced as one of eight members of the Florida Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2023. The list of inductees was announced as part of a reception that was held at the museum located in Port St. Lucie.
"Born in Daytona Beach, Carter is an eight-time All-Star and a two-time All-NBA Team selection. He is the only player in NBA history to play 22 seasons and in four different decades, from his debut in 1999 to his retirement in 2020. He has been touted as the greatest dunker of all time. He was also a prolific three-point shooter, ranking No. 6 in three-pointers in league history. He led his Daytona Mainland High School basketball team to its first Class 6A state title in 56 years and was a 1995 McDonald’s All-American."
Carter, a Daytona Beach, Florida native, put together an outstanding 22-year career in the NBA that ranged over four different decades. Known as one of the best dunkers the sport has ever seen, the former Tar Heel was an eight-time All-Star and a two-time All-NBA selection.
Along with Carter, the following sports figures are also being inducted into the Florida Sports Hall of Fame this fall:
LeRoy Butler
Greg Coleman
Tom Coughlin
Ashlyn Harris
Jeff Johnson
Elaine Larsen
Shannon Miller
With close to 26,000 career points to his name, this most likely won’t be the first Hall of Fame that Carter gets elected to. It’s possible that the UNC basketball legend could be inducted into the NBA Hall of Fame as early as 2024 when he becomes eligible for the first time.
The Florida Sports Hall of Fame will induct the Class of 2023 on November 8 at the Florida Theatre in Jacksonville, Florida.
