Mack Brown and the UNC football program have added a three-star athlete who is expected to make an impact in the Tar Heels secondary.

Before he even finished his official visit, Carlos Mitchell knew that Chapel Hill was the right place for him.

Mitchell announced on social media that he will be committing to the University of North Carolina. He is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound athlete out of the state of Florida and is regarded by 247Sports Composite as a three-star player.

The latest UNC football commit is coming off a strong junior season in which he hauled 28 catches for 815 yards and 12 touchdowns for Lake Wales High School. He also showcased his skills on special teams, totaling 155 kick return yards and 305 yards as a punt returner to add to his 2,946 all-purpose yards over his high school career.

Although he’s been a standout on offense, the Tar Heels are recruiting him as a cornerback. With his commitment, Mitchell is now the third defensive back to join the program’s 2024 recruiting class.

The Tar Heels have also done a solid job in recruiting the Florida area, as they now have five commitments from this respective class from this state.

Mack Brown and company continue to look to rise up the class ranks, as their Class of 2024 now sits at No. 12 in the 247Sports Team Rankings. With more time left in this cycle, the UNC football program could potentially rise even higher before it’s all said and done.
