The UNC Basketball program has seen a slight change to its 2023-2024 roster since the latest bracketology prediction. How does that affect the Tar Heels?

It has been just over a month since the latest Joe Lunardi ESPN Bracketology projections for the 2023-2024 college basketball season. In the last 30 days, the UNC basketball program received a reclassification decision from top 2024 commit, Elliot Cadeau, and will add him to the 2023-2024 roster. How did Lunardi consider that addition in his latest seed projection for the Tar Heels?

Just over a month ago, Lunardi predicted the Tar Heels to be a No. 4 seed in the Midwest region. Despite the addition of Cadeau to the roster, Lunardi doesn’t seem to be moving Carolina on the seed line, at least not yet.

Hubert Davis’ squad comes in as a No. 4 seed in the South Region in the early June edition of ESPN’s Bracketologist. The only change in this edition is whom the Tar Heels match up with and the location of the games that will be played.

Projections have a potential Carolina-Illinois 2005 National Championship rematch in the four vs five second-round game in Salt Lake City, Utah. If the bracket were to go chalk, as we know it never does, then a 2022 National Championship rematch with the No. 1 overall seed Kansas Jayhawks would be on the line in the Sweet Sixteen.

The South Region would be played in Dallas, Texas. Other notable teams projected in the Tar Heel region are No. 2 Seed Creighton, No.  Seed Alabama, and No. 8 seed Kentucky.

Just in the May edition of bracketology, the ACC continues to get little to no respect from the national media, receiving only five projected bids. No. 1 seed Duke, No. 9 seed Miami, No. 10 seed Clemson, and No. 11 seed Virginia join the No. 4 seed Tar Heels in the June projection.

Charlotte, North Carolina is a host site for the first and second-round games in the 2024 NCAA Tournament and would be a nice destination for UNC basketball and its fans if the Tar Heels could earn a high enough seed to stay close to Chapel Hill for the first weekend.

Note: This projection was prior to UNC Basketball Class of 2023 commit Simeon Wilcher requesting his release from his National Letter of Intent.
