The North Carolina Tar Heels have earned a commitment from Timothy Lawson, a two-sport standout from Fort Myers, Florida.

On Monday, Timothy Lawson announced his commitment to the North Carolina Tar Heels, as he intends to play football and baseball at the college level.

As a football player, Lawson is a three-star tight end who 247Sports ranks as the No. 59 overall player in his class at his position. During his junior season, Lawson caught 32 passes for 469 yards and a touchdown as he helped Bishop Verot to a 10-3 record that ended with a trip to Florida’s 2S playoff semifinals.

On the diamond, Lawson is a left-handed pitcher who also plays first base when he’s not on the mound. Prior to his commitment to the UNC baseball program, the rising senior was initially committed to UCF.

Lawson was on campus in Chapel Hill this weekend for an official visit and didn’t take long to decide that North Carolina was the right place for him. It will be interesting to see what Lawson can do on both the football and baseball fields once he arrives on campus.
