According to CBS Sports, two of the top 50 transfer portal players from this offseason’s cycle are set to join the UNC basketball program.

Having lost a handful of players to the transfer portal, Hubert Davis and the UNC basketball program had to utilize the portal to add some talent to this year’s roster.

The Tar Heels did just that, adding four new veteran players to the mix.

Recently, David Cobb of CBS Sports ranked the top 50 transfer portal players, as two of the student-athletes are making their way to Chapel Hill.

Stanford transfer Harrison Ingram came in at No. 10 on the list, as the 6-foot-8 forward is the highest-ranked transfer heading to an ACC program. Cobb believes that Ingram could regain some of the buzz that he had as a five-star high school prospect.

"It’s possible that a change of scenery is all Ingram needs to recapture the NBA Draft buzz he once enjoyed as a five-star prospect from the Class of 2021. At 6-8, he’s a versatile forward who can play on the block or step out and hit 3-pointers. He’s also a savvy passer who can facilitate the offense. Ingram averaged 10.5 points, 6.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists in two seasons with the Cardinal. If he can bring up his career 62.9% free-throw shooting and 31.6% 3-point shooting percentage, Ingram can be a high-impact starter for the Tar Heels."

A player who hasn’t drawn as much attention as other UNC basketball commits is Louisville transfer Jae’Lyn Withers. The former four-star prospect was an ACC All-Freshman selection but has fallen off offensively over the past two seasons.

At North Carolina, Withers will look to re-write the script:

"Somewhere inside the 6-foot-8, 230-pound frame of Withers is an excellent college basketball player and maybe even an NBA prospect. The former four-star prospect earned ACC All-Freshman honors in 2020-21 for a respectable Cardinals’ squad before regressing offensively over the past two seasons amid chaos within the program. Withers ranked as Louisville’s best defender this season, per evanmiya.com, and UNC coach Hubert Davis will have a chance to build off the potential Withers showed earlier in his career."

It’s safe to say that the UNC basketball program will rely heavily on their incoming transfers this season, as both Ingram and Withers have the opportunity to be impact players from the minute they officially step foot on campus.
