UNC Basketball: Two future commits on USA U19 Roster
By Jordan Falls
Two future UNC Basketball 2024 commits were announced as part of the training camp roster for the USA Basketball U19 team.
The USA Basketball U19 training camp roster was released yesterday, and the UNC basketball program saw that two of their current 2024 commits made the roster.
The No. 5 overall player in the Class of 2024, Ian Jackson, and the No. 18 overall player in the Class of 2024, Drake Powell are both on the U19 roster. The roster consists of 35 athletes competing at training camp beginning June 11th. The final roster will be narrowed down to 12 players to play for the 2023 FIBA U19 Men’s World Cup.
Jackson and Powell are both part of the 2024 UNC basketball recruiting class that is currently No. 1 overall in the country and expects to stay that way despite losing Elliot Cadeau to the Class of 2023 as part of his reclassification.
With Jackson and Powell being selected to the USA Basketball U19 training camp roster, this is just another win for the UNC basketball coaching staff and head coach Hubert Davis. When it comes to analyzing talent and having top players commit to Carolina, Davis is getting it done on the recruiting trail, and this just further proves that.
Another 2024 recruit that made the U19 roster that UNC basketball fans may find interest in is Boogie Fland, the No. 12 player in the 2024 class. Fland is currently uncommitted and is considered to be close with Ian Jackson.
With Cadeau reclassifying, there’s a potential roster spot open for 2024. Could Jackson, Powell, and Fland spend some quality time together in Colorado Springs at the U19 training camp that may sway Fland to join the UNC basketball program?
