More pre-season honors for several players on the UNC football team came on Wednesday afternoon when Athlon Sports released their All-ACC teams.

We’re still 101 days until UNC football takes the field on September 2nd in Charlotte against South Carolina, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to start looking to the 2023 season and the talent in the Carolina locker room.

Just yesterday Athlon Sports released their pre-season All-American honors and two UNC football players found themselves on the list. Now, Athlon Sports has moved on to releasing their all-conference teams and numerous Tar Heels made All-ACC.

To no one’s surprise, Drake Maye and Cedric Gray head up the first-team All-ACC honors for the UNC football program. Many other Tar Heels made the other lists though. Linebacker Power Echols, tight end Bryson Nesbit, and punter Ben Kiernan were listed on the second-team All-ACC.

Several other Tar Heels made third and fourth-team All-ACC: Elijah Green (RB), transfers Devontez Walker (WR), Ryan Coe (K), and Spencer Rolland (OL) were nominated to the third-team while Omarion Hampton (RB), Kamari Morales (TE), Corey Gaynor (C), and Kaimon Rucker (LB) were listed on the fourth-team.

When looked at on paper, this is widely considered the best roster for the Mack Brown 2.0 Era. While UNC football fans ultimately want that to be determined on the field, it is hard not to get excited when you realize the recognition and talent the 2023 Tar Heels are getting.

Devontez Walker has a lot of excitement around him and with one of the best QBs in the country, he could easily be a first-team All-ACC wide receiver by the end of the season. This isn’t the first, and it won’t be the last, time we see multiple Tar Heels earn pre-season honors.
