The UNC baseball program will likely have to play without star centerfielder Vance Honeycutt throughout this week’s ACC Tournament.

One of the major storylines surrounding the UNC baseball program has been the health of star centerfielder Vance Honeycutt.

Described as a “lower-body injury,” the sophomore outfielder has missed four consecutive games, which is unlike him given he started every other contest since arriving in Chapel Hill.

Before Tuesday’s first pitch of the ACC Tournament between the Diamond Heels and Georgia Tech, we received an update on Honeycutt’s status, one that certainly isn’t ideal.

Honeycutt is not in the Tar Heels lineup on Tuesday and is not expected to be able to play at all throughout the ACC Tournament this week. The hope is that Honeycutt will be able to return to the lineup when the Diamond Heels kick off NCAA Tournament play in the regional round next week.

This is a big loss for the UNC baseball program, as they’ve lost the four games that their centerfielder has missed. Although they would love to have him in the lineup, there’s no sense in rushing him back from the injury, as they just hope that he progresses to a point where he can see the field once again this season.
