Former UNC baseball standout Zac Gallen has put himself firmly among the mix of the top starting pitchers in all of Major League Baseball.

We’re essentially two full months into the Major League Baseball season, as certain players have been flat-out stars for their respective ball clubs.

Former UNC baseball star Zac Gallen is among the notable players, as he’s off to a very strong start to begin the season. Following up a 2022 season in which he went 12-4 with a 2.54 ERA over 31 starts, the right-hander is currently 6-2 with a 2.95 ERA over his first 10 starts of the 2023 campaign.

His current numbers were enough to place him atop MLB’s most recent pitcher power rankings:

Gallen headlines a list of very impressive starting pitchers, a group that includes the likes of New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole and Los Angeles Dodgers star Clayton Kershaw. According to MLB’s most recent rankings, courtesy of Sage, Gallen has been the best pitcher throughout all of Major League Baseball thus far.

The former Tar Heel is receiving some well-deserved praise, as he’s been an important part of the team’s early season success. If he’s able to keep up his dominance on the mound, it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see him at least be a very strong candidate for the annual National League CY Young Award.

We just hope that former UNC baseball standout doesn’t have any more run-ins with birds any time soon!
