Another UNC basketball legend is being inducted into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame, this one as part of the Class of 2023.

“Psycho T” is heading to the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame!

The former UNC basketball legend was announced as one of the inductees for the Class of 2023. He will be inducted on August 30 in Chicago as his class includes both Mike Krzyzewski and Johnny Dawkins of Duke, Jefferson coach Herb Magee, and the late talent scout Tom Konchalski.

Hansbrough put together an incredible career at North Carolina, as he is the only four-time first-team All-America and four-time first-team All-ACC honoree in Atlantic Coast Conference men’s basketball history.

During his time in Chapel Hill, the Tar Heels were 120-22, earning three No. 1 seeds in the NCAA Tournament, three ACC regular season titles, two ACC Tournament titles,  two NCAA regional titles two Final Four spots, and of course, the 2009 NCAA championship.

As a Tar Heel, Hansbrough scored 2,872 points and recorded 1,219 rebounds. He shot an impressive 53.6% from the floor and 79.1% from the free-throw line. He still sits as the ACC’s all-time leading scorer and was the unanimous selection for the 2008 National Player of the Year Award.

You could go on for days about Hansbrough’s career with the UNC basketball program, as he is the most decorated player in the program’s history. We may never see a player dominate the college basketball world like Hansbrough did as a Tar Heel.

Hansbrough will become the 14th Tar Heel player of coach to earn this honor. The others include Ben Carnevale, Frank McGuire, Dean Smith, Billy Cunningham, Bob McAdoo, Larry Brown, James Worthy, Roy Williams, Phil Ford, Charlie Scott, Sam Perkins, Antawn Jamison, and Larry Miller.

In the UNC basketball program’s official press release, Hansbrough made a statement regarding his induction into the National Collegiate Basketball Hall of Fame:

"“I’m honored to be getting inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame. Choosing to play at North Carolina was one of the smartest decisions I’ve made. I had the greatest teammates at UNC and want to thank them. I also played for the best coaching staff in college basketball, and I thank Coach Williams and his staff.”"

August 30 will be a special day, as Tyler Hansbrough will take his rightful place in the College Basketball Hall of Fame.
