After suffering a season-ending knee injury the Denver Broncos are hopeful that this former UNC football standout will be ready for training camp.

Javonte Williams’ sophomore season in the NFL was cut short due to tears in his ACL, LCL, and posterolateral corner (PLC).

The former UNC football standout’s absence was significant for the Denver Broncos, who put together a disappointing 5-12 season. As Sean Payton prepares for his first season at the helm, he seems optimistic about Williams’ progress in rehabbing the injury:

"“Our current starter (Williams) is doing extremely well. I would tell you that we expect him to be ready for the start of training camp and that’s good news. His rehab is going well. I don’t want to speak for him or (vice president of player health and performance) Beau (Lowery) or anyone else, but we get the daily reports. We’re pretty tight-lipped relative to information going out, but I’ve read a lot and I think his rehab is going well.”"

Payton’s comments during the team’s rookie minicamp were more positive than general manager George Paton’s were a few weeks prior, where Paton went on to say that the organization is “not entirely sure” when the former Tar Heel will be back.

Since arriving in Denver, Williams has been an integral part of the team’s offense. During his rookie campaign in 2021, Williams rushed for 903 yards while also adding 316 receiving yards, as he found the endzone on seven different occasions.

Unfortunately, the Broncos didn’t get to see what Williams could do in a full season with Russell Wilson under center, as his injury derailed him for the majority of the season.

Of course, the Broncos organization won’t rush him back into action, but he’s a player who should be the team’s top running back once he’s able to return to the field. The franchise is certainly hopeful that his recovery allows him to return sooner, as they know they are a better team when their featured back is available for them to utilize.
