UNC Baseball: Scott Forbes signs five-year contract extension
There’s no doubt who will lead the UNC baseball program into the future, as head coach Scott Forbes has agreed to a contract extension.
Scott Forbes has been rewarded for his impressive early tenure as the UNC baseball program’s head coach.
On Friday, the program announced that Forbes has agreed to a five-year contract extension. The deal is set to run through June 30, 2028.
Forbes has been around the program for quite some time (22 seasons to be exact), as he served mostly as an assistant coach before taking over as the team’s head coach.
In just under three seasons at the helm, Forbes currently holds a 101-66 record and is just one of two coaches in program history to lead the Diamond Heels to the NCAA Tournament in each of their first two seasons in the position.
In the university’s official press release, Forbes expressed his excitement for his future in Chapel Hill:
"“I’m extremely grateful to Chancellor Kevin Guskiewicz, Bubba Cunningham and his staff, and our distinguished Board of Trustees for their continued confidence in me and their support of our program. I also appreciate our tremendous donors who mean so much to our program, as well as the current and former head coaches at UNC who have been and continue to be great teammates. I’m blessed to have the best family support in the world, and I thank Mandy, Hannah and Ally for all they do.UNC baseball begins and ends with our student-athletes. This program will always be about our players, they are why we do what we do. I am humbled by the opportunity to continue to serve them and hungry for what lies ahead. To the Tar Heel baseball diehards: You are such a huge part of our success, let’s keep packing the Bosh and continue moving Tar Heel Baseball forward together."
The UNC baseball program has found its man, as Forbes has transitioned nicely into the head coaching position. Although there’s plenty of excitement regarding the future of the Diamond Heels, this year’s squad still has plenty of business to take care of.
