After a brief stint in the bullpen, junior right-hander Max Carlson is set to rejoin the UNC baseball program’s starting rotation.

On Friday night, a familiar face will return to the starting rotation for the UNC baseball program.

After securing a walk-off victory on Thursday night, head coach Scott Forbes announced that Max Carlson will get the start in the second game of the series on Friday night. It will be the first start for the junior right-hander since he started the game on April 21 against Boston College.

Since transitioning to the bullpen, Carlson has made three appearances in relief. He picked up his first career save against East Carolina, as he threw three scoreless innings to secure the victory.

Even though the Diamond Heels decided to move Carlson to the bullpen for a short period of time, Forbes reiterated how the team hasn’t lost faith in the right-hander:

"“We’re going to roll Carlson back out there. I feel like he’s back with his confidence. Our guys believe in Carlson. At the end of the day, he’s our guy. I mean, we can spin it any way we want to. I really believe that for us to get where we want to go, Max Carlson needs to pitch for us and he needs to start and he needs to go deep.”"

The UNC baseball program needs Carlson on top of his game, especially as postseason baseball draws near. We’ll have to see what the junior has in store when he takes the mound in what is another important contest for the Diamond Heels.
